PELOROUS ESCAPE !!

My ideal cruizing partner!

Spot the 2 foot "croc"

G'day all,
Galleycat has left the relative shelter of Fantome Island and made the crossing into Lucinda / Dungeoness to pick up Helen..
Unfortunately leaving the anchorage was where we simply ran out of water! With the tide dropping from 3.75m to 0.44m I suppose it was inevitable.
Luckily we weren't the only ones marooned with 3 smaller boats all parked on little sand islands.
Arriving on the high tide was easy this morning with a spinnaker run all the way from Fantome Island to Dungeoness Jetty.
I spent yesterday in Juno Bay with Gary (Ranger from Lockhart River) and Alasdair  (Yetti from Scotland)  from the yacht "Golden Opportunity" . Dinner and drinx followed an afternoon of teaching Alasdair the basics of Powerdiving.
We've all agreed to catch up later on my travels Northwards.
The photo of Jake was the last for my budget cheapy camera and it haz now gone to wherever dead camera's go after their thyme is up.
So I'm having to break in a new one on this trip.
As the tide does! The water returned and we finally left Lucinda behind us.

With the sunlight fading and the weather not the best we made haste 4 the shelter of Pelorous Island.
Arriving after dark it waz thyme to cook a feed of Chilli Mudcrab Galleycat style.
Totally Yum (not Tom Yum) So much so that Helen decided on a second helping before breakfast.
Our nite thyme slumber was disturbed once again by the monster tides!
With the tidal flow so strong we were constantly turned side on to the wind which made for a very bumpy couple of hours.
A late sleep in followed...
All civilized people should rise around 10am !

.
We decided on a full cooked breakkie to supply heaps of energy for the day.
I promised Helen I'd bring her out into "my world" in an effort to get her ying back in touch with her yang and so far it seems to of worked.
She is far more relaxed and rested than when she arrived on Friday.
Plus she's taken to squiding and fishing like a true champion.
We now have plenty of fresh clean squid tubes and fillets of spangled emporor for dinner.
Simple lemon butter for the fish and lemon pepper and garlic oil for the squid. No vegies needed.
Today we've upped the anchor and set sail on a voyage to no-where!
In reality we are doing a lap of Pelorous Island under full sail (no motors) that was until the wind died to leave us in a glass off! "typical"
So it was back to our anchorage behind Pelorous for a swim/ snorkel before dark.
The calm conditions meant I was finally able to get a few fotoz of Galleycat with her shiny new coat of paint and stickers.
We set about constructing a memorable dinner!
So we crumbed some fillet steak into snitzels then stuffed a couple of zuchini's with a beef and shiraz sausage, onion, capsicum and bread stuffing plus a heap of b.b.q  roasted capsicum strips to provide that touch of sweetness.
The whole meal was washed down with a huge glass of Baileys on ice under a star filled sky.
Another late sleep in before we raised the spinnacker and set "sail" this thyme for Zoe Bay on Hinchinbrook Island.
Everyone has told me this is a "must see" destination (wkoa) so around 1 pm today we'll round the headland and park the yot near this piece of paradise.
Picture Perfect!
We've got the place to ourselves!
Or so we thought!, as we neared the edge of the rainforest  I heard voices, just inside the undergrowth we came across a group of students on a survival hike around the Hinchinbrook.
After a walk through the forest we came across this mountain stream that wound itz way down to the beach.
Helen took the opportunity for some brief meditation.
We continued along the well travelled path and came out onto a stunning waterfall and pool.
It was here we found the rest of the students already enjoying this piece of paradise.
It was definately thyme to join them.
The cool water was a welcome relief from the humidity of the rain forest.
Heaps of jungle perch swimming in the pool as well as students.

With Helen having to head back to work tomorrow it was thyme to head back towards Lucinda.
While in Lucinda I met a fellow traveller Nathan (kiwi) with the weather turning near perfect we resupplied and set off for the Reef in search of fresh fishes and adventure.
So another Journey begins.....
A Gr8 big hello to my Irish Mermaid 'twas really good to get your email and I'm crossing my fingers for you in your new adventure.
My wait for crew out of Townsville may of solved itself with the news that Big Ash is heading this way in the near future.
He needs a little peace and quiet as his rugrats have been truly bitten by the fishing bug and are pestering him to go fishing at every available moment.
They spent last weekend out in Cockburn Sound catching a heap of skippy, king george and herring.
A wise man once said never work with kidz or animals and having once been aboard with Ash's kids I can understand his desire to flee...
That's about all for this week
Captain Felix

  1. Ahoy there, CF and whoever else is aboard the Cat
What a beautiful spot for a swim !!!! Hopefully, it was too far from the shore to have any nasty reptiles sharing the water with you. The Cat looks fantastic with her all-over white coat - I nearly needed to put on my sunnies to look at it. I will send a copy of this photo to Club Marine - they didn't ask for one, but in the initial correspondence I said I'd send one once the paint job was finished. We've obviously caught the painting bug from you- even though I HATE painting, as I think I may have mentioned - once or twice!!!! . Yesterday we painted the entry area, and are heading into the lounge today. Our bedroom is finished, as is the music room, so things are moving forward. The lining is finished on the front porch area - looks terrific (for pine) - I'll try to attach a photo to show you. Mark spent most of yesterday dismantelling the kitchen he's bought from its spot in a soon to be demolished house and relocating it to his new house. He and Maddi came in last night looking ABSOLUTELY stuffed, but a hot meal, a spa soak (we don't have any beautiful natural pools- apart from the ocean- close handy) and a good night's sleep have restored them both to there usual selves. He and all the kids went to the dawn service at King's Park, so it was a VERY long day. They're looking at moving the toilet in his new house, like we did at Dianella, to create a shower space in the main bathroom, so are planning to stay here until that is done and the kitchen installed. They also want to repaint - OH NO - MORE PAINTING !!!!!! and sand and revarnish all the jarrah floors before they shift. A reasonably big job, but as the house is fairly small, it shouldn't take too long.
Good news that Ash is looking at heading your way again soon- he'll be glad of the break. Dealing with 4 little kids is tiring - speaking from experience.
Dad said he spoke to you last night and that you were heading to Cairns under spinnaker. You've obviously made good time around Hinchinbrook. Hope the weather was favourable for the trip. Do you plan to spend a while based around Cairns? I have a few bits to post to you ( or maybe Ash could bring them over - not heavy or bulky- when he goes) - just let me know.
Must away - painting supervising to do.
Fair winds and following seas.Love, Mum.

PS Decided it would be easier to send you the photo via email.

  2. Hey there Captain Felix. It's cold here in NZ. But sitting in front of the fire is nice. Not as MAGIC as sitting fishing. Hope you got away from Cairns ok. Did you make it back to Turtle Bay? Looking forward to getting back to Aus
