GALLEY CAT
LIFE BEGINS !

FRIDAY NIGHT IS HERE AGAIN!

Well, I'm not really sure how often to update this thing but as friday night is generally reserved for religious events (bourbon o'clock) so it's as good a time as any to set up a regular update.
Should that prove to be a pain in the arse then I'll cross that hurdle when it comes.

The goal for this week was to have the rear deck fitted and painted by the end of the week and as the photo's show, we made it !

It's not until you see these photo's against this one that the scale of the change becomes apparent.
This was taken the day we arrived. Only four months have gone by and now the weather has turned for the better, progress should accelerate dramatically. Large portions of the work has had to be completed and stored in the shed until the rains stopped long enough for us to fibreglass and waterproof the rear section.
Next week has been earmarked for Mast removal and gooseneck construction. Here's hoping the weather gods smile upon us again and next friday see's a radical change to the sillouette of the YOT!

LONG LIVE FRIDAY NIGHTS!

It's finally happened !

I've finally been dragged kicking and screaming into the world of mobile phones / computers / e mails and other such "necessary technical marvels".
I said I'd only get one of these when it became essential. Finally as this journey begins  the need for computer and mobile communications  has become a necessary evil in my life, strangely, just as I'm busy trying to reduce if not eliminate my need to be part of "the real world".
Galley Cat hereto know as YOT or THE YOT is currently based in Townsville Qld.
Several months work has already been done on refitting the Yot to suit my new lifestyle of total/limited disconnection and self sufficiency.
This weeks task involves fitting the new rear deck, ready for final fibreglassing and painting, fingers crossed and weather permitting by Friday I'll have a single level rear deck area ,ready to bolt the alfresco kitchen/bbq area to.(photo pending)
Only now three months into this refit do I realize how much has been achieved in such a short time.
Those of you who've been following this refit will appreciate the hardships the first 3 months has thrown up:
2 cyclones (1 category 5), severe flooding , torrential rain (more than the last 100 years) , food and water shortages and a major power surge . Yes! well , my introduction to sunny Qld has been a real eye opener!
"BEAUTIFUL ONE DAY PERFECT THE NEXT" has to be the single best piece of false advertising I've ever experienced. Granted this has been a very unusual wet season  (could it be cause I'm here?), one has to wonder.
Despite these very minor distractions, huge leaps forward have been made into readying the YOT for ocean living PLUS I caught my first BARRAMUNDI, there's not too many fish I haven't caught and a Barra was very high on my Angling "Bucket List".

The real purpose of this trip is to fish all those places I've heard about over the last 30 years of fishing and to create and consume awesome seafood and outstanding culinary delights.Really the main purpose of the refit is to adapt a world cruising yacht into the most comfortable live aboard caravan a fisherman could ever hope to have.
Of course no fishing trip is any good without a few good mates to share the experience,so I formally invite anyone to contact me next time your stuck in a traffic jam or just basically need a break and I'm sure I can find a place for you to bunk down ,hell, you might even catch a fish or two who knows?

Anyway that'll do for today!
