OUTRAGEOUS CURVES + LOTZ OF PROGRESS !!

G'day All,  Itz been a really big week on Galleycat ! This weeks progress has made up for the frustrating thymes of the last few weeks.
The week started with our planned fishing trip to Magnetic Islands' northern most corner.Which produced a few fish but nothing huge. The highlight of the trip was a brief tussle with what looked 2b a cobia only for the disappointment of a suckerfish to yield itself. After a lovely cooling tropical shower which lasted for at least 3/4 of an hour, the temperature then rose to unacceptable levels! So we decided to head for Bay Rock for a refreshing swim in the shallows. Absolutely beautiful.
The night-time mosquito problem has been lessened with the fixing of a new "bug mesh" magnetic screen door to the cabin entrance. The initial install lasted about an hour before the velcro strips "provided" let go and the whole idea became useless. The following morning I re-addressed the issue and manufactured a couple of architraves to hold the mesh in position (much betta).
Aside from the mesh itself being very weak the concept is brilliant! I will be upgrading the mesh and top tabs once I've got the sowing machine active in the coming weeks but 4 now I'm mozzie free- inside at least.

After the weekends activities it waz thyme 2 get back to the serious task of building "The Pergola". With lotz of discussions the final curvature was decided and the necessary cutz made to the leading edge on both sides of the canopy. These "outrageous curves" were a lot bolder than originally designed but after applying the edge trims and lotz of fibreglass , they've really added to the overall shape of both the Yot and the Pergola. The window frame is now glued, screwed and fastened together and is incredibly strong just awaiting a final sand and paint job once the roof is removed next week.
We were to remove the roof this week but with the arrival of the big tides also came the arrival of the big boats, and thus the workload within the yard has increased 10 fold. No complaints here as more work means more yard credit for materials.
The electrical wire for the canopy has now arrived and will be fitted while the roof is off, once the led strip lights arrive. I've also been given 10 courtesy lights this week in both white and blue so they will be added to the design over the coming weeks.
I'm definitely getting itchy feet and cannot wait to get back out on the water to try some of these improvements
The end of the week saw us head in a different direction and begin to close some of the construction "scars" down the sides of the Yot. This is really the first move into the cosmetic side of the build rather than the construction side. The side panels on either side of the rear deck have been extended down to the fishing platform and several large blocks of foam are being shaped to add feature to the side curves of the Yot and help blend the changes into the original design.
The phones have been running hot this week with far too many calls to list, but all contacts are graciously received as I do get lonely occasionally, and the incoming messages from the West remind me just why I'm building  this floating fishing / cooking platform ! The closer I get to actual completion the more enquiry's and "bookings" I'm getting with several people ringing this week to reserve holiday accommodation (wkoa). It really gives me a sense of purpose that has been sadly lacking for a few weeks and a new drive to get the Yot ready to accept visitors.Even if I do push myself a little too hard.
This weeks culinary feats took an unexpected twist with the arrival of a huge leg ham. So for Friday lunch I made a ham and mushroom pasta bake the had everyone reaching for seconds. Until Big Rob finished the entire tray!
Well, the tide has finally dropped enuf to allow me to leave the Yot and begin today's task of painting a huge 56ft trawler. Then I'll begin to shape and fibreglass (itchy crap) the foam blocks into place.
Before I can get back here again for my regular Saturday cleanup and distilling.
That's about all from Galley Cat this week.
Enjoy yourselves and remember "Life is for living!"
