STAGE 3 Complete!

 G'day from Salamander Reef !
A huge welcome to 2015, Australia Day Cheers and G'day from Galleycat.
We are finally back online thanx 2 the purchase of a replacement laptop!
Galleycat is anchored on Salamander Reef just off Cape Clevland.
Robert (Holland) and Myself have left the Chaos and heat of The Slipway and set off in search of fresh phish!
Not that we need any more fish as the opening foto'z show.
My first Barramundi of the season was this 93 cm beauti !
Robert wanted to catch a fish so we had livebaits set out in front of the Slips and this Barra took off with our mullet on the bottom of the tide.
As usual the fillets were shared around but I still have a nice chunk of shoulder to myself.
We are slowly filling the icebox with fillets of Red Emporer, Nannygai and shark.
No mackerel yet but the day is young.
Last nite waz just a bit stormy and ruff but this morning the sea has nearly glassed off.
The afternoon thunderstormz bring welcome relief from the oppressive heat and humidity.
This storm rolled in in spectacular fashion and turned day into night with amazing lightning and the obligatory downpour to cool things down.
The task of painting the Yot is approaching conclusion with only the outside of the hulls left 2 do.
The rear deck has had itz new coat and loox a million dollars.
We ended up going with a soft grey to match the blinds and foredeck paint scheme.
Itz amazing to look back at the old fotoz of Paseo and compare the current model.
It takes hour and hours to prepare the sections for painting and nearly twice as long to re-attach all the fittings and fixtures. With the heat making the majority of the day thyme unusable. then when the heat finally leaves, a solid downpour limits your work activities.
Still the job keeps moving 4ward.
Luckily the rear deck has a huge cover over the top so the refit wasn't to bad as we had heapz of shade.
Robert is due to leave for a horse farm near Tawoomba, so itz up to me to finish the paint job and that is this month's task.
I'll get the job done b4 I head back to Perth for a final catch up with everyone B4 I set sail towards Brother Andrew and Groote Island in early March or April.
Touch wood we haven't seen a Cyclone this season,  letz hope it stayz that weigh.
My Australia Day spit roast lamb was a "total failure"!
The food was great and the lamb cooked superbly, however I was left with food for 30 people and only 4 people to share it with.
The utter disappointment and anger I felt at the end of the day is a lesson I will remember for a very long thyme!
Still Bowen (puppy) enjoyed his share of $200 worth of prime Victorian Lamb.
It seems the writings on the wall and itz thyme for me to leave this place!
With this valuable lesson learned, I've tripled my efforts to get the final few tasks complete there seems no end of jobs that need sorting B4 I set off for The Reef again.
It seems my demon has a stronger hold on me than I'd given it credence!

Much thought and reflection....

  1. Greetings, CF
Good to see you back on-line again - and with an impressive barra to show for it. Glad Bowen enjoyed Australia Day with you - must be a family thing to be ignored though. We asked Nell, Porle and Jayde up here for tea that night, to watch the Skyshow - only Nell turned up!!!!! I think I'm a little out of favour as I growled at Jayde about being so fussy with her food. Oh well, more BBQ and salad for us. The Cat is looking good, and should have some "Felix" banners very soon. Didn't tell you, but Auntie Sandra died last week - lung cancer, which is not all that surprising, considering how much she used to smoke. I went to the funeral yesterday, and bring you greetings from Lydia-Jane and also Neroli Greenhalgh. It's getting a bit scary how many of my generation are falling off the perch!!!! Uncle Terry is really not at all well, either, which is worrying. We are off to the cricket with them tomorrow.
Mark and Maddi seem to be settling in OK, and I think Denny and Lenka enjoyed their time in Perth- they're talking of coming back again for a holiday when she's a bit better, although she was a LOT better than I had expected. Mark took them up to Cervantes and the Pinnacles for a couple of days - the highlight of their visit.
Certainly seems like the time is right for you to head for Groote- but it would be great if you can fit in a trip West before you leave - I know Mr Mick in particular would be very glad to see you, as would we, of course..
Back to school for me next week, still Wed-Fr, but a trip to Melbourne at the end of the 2nd week, for Auntie Millie's 90th birthday bash will ease me back in gradually. We're also going to dinner with Chris and John while we're in Melbourne, and catching up with Mark!!!!! He's got a conference to attend on the M-Wed of the week after Millie's party, so he's going over early, to go to the birthday bash too.
Better head off- going to the G&S hall to sew up some curtains with Veronica.
    Fair winds and following seas.
    Take care
    Mum

  2. Ahoy Cptn Felix. Not sure about the red pinstriping. But I'm sure the final coat looks amazing. the YOT will look awesome once its all done and ready for the trip around the top. That Barra looks rather impressive too. would have been a nice addition to the fillets we brought back from the reef in October. I trust that the four of you (and bowen) had a feast and enjoyed the best bits of the lamb. Personally I love the ribs. a bit of salt and turned over coals like that and they can't be beaten. I was hoping to find a chance to come over before your departure but that is looking impossible with the trip drawing near and my work load in full swing. I have managed to get a short trip to Melbourne booked for a couple of weeks time and will be spending valentines with Emily and the Sunday after celebrating Aunt Milly's 90th. Then home for bout a week and back on the plane to Adelaide for the annual pilgrimage to CLIPSAL. I am sure you will get the regular call as the jet flies low overhead or the V8's hit their rev limiters on the starting grid. Until I catch you again.....keep sailing to brighter lands and enjoy the fishing. You never know, I hear there is a V8 race in Darwin mid year???
    Cheers for now Brother Mark
